As a groomsman, what I was expecting was a low-cost, functional waistcoat that the groom had picked out for his wedding. That was exactly what I got. As a little extra bonus, this one is EXTREMELY green. More green that I expected.

We bought this vest for my fiance. We were very excited to receive it. We are happy with our purchase. However, I must warn you that the color is not the same as the photo, the photo is much darker. The vest is a bright St. Patrick's Day green. It is an amazing deal for the price! My fiance loves the quality of the tie! If you are looking for a nice vest look no further!

This vest was the second part of my attempt at a couples costume with my girlfriend. We decided to go as the Joker and his g/f Harley Quinn. The minute I saw this emerald green vest I wanted it. This vest suited my needs well. Its well made and durable. It did take a while to arrive though.

St. Patrick's Day History:
In the past, Saint Patrick's Day was celebrated as a religious holiday. It started as a simple feast day to honour St. Patrick but developed into a holy day of obligation where people attended mass in the morning and celebrate for the rest of the day in the afternoon.

During the Middle Ages, shops would close for the whole day as the celebration became longer and more enthusiastic. It was also during this time that St. Patrick's Day became a one-day reprieve from the forty days of fasting during the season of Lent. For many Christians this included indulging in ale, a beer brewed from malted barley. Over the years drinking ale and other beer products became a tradition for the day.

St. Patrick's religious background:
Patrick was born around 385 in Scotland, probably Kilpatrick. His parents were Calpurnius and Conchessa, who were Romans living in Britian in charge of the colonies.

As a boy of fourteen or so, he was captured during a raiding party and taken to Ireland as a slave to herd and tend sheep. Ireland at this time was a land of Druids and pagans. He learned the language and practices of the people who held him.

During his captivity, he turned to God in prayer. He wrote

"The love of God and his fear grew in me more and more, as did the faith, and my soul was rosed, so that, in a single day, I have said as many as a hundred prayers and in the night, nearly the same." "I prayed in the woods and on the mountain, even before dawn. I felt no hurt from the snow or ice or rain."

Patrick was ordained a bishop, and was sent to take the Gospel to Ireland. He arrived in Ireland March 25, 433, at Slane. One legend says that he met a chieftain of one of the tribes, who tried to kill Patrick. Patrick converted Dichu (the chieftain) after he was unable to move his arm until he became friendly to Patrick.

Patrick's captivity lasted until he was twenty, when he escaped after having a dream from God in which he was told to leave Ireland by going to the coast. There he found some sailors who took him back to Britian, where he reunited with his family.

Why a shamrock?
Originally the color associated with St. Patrick was blue, not green. Over time mythology evolved that St. Patrick used the shamrock to explain the Trinity, and has been associated with him and the Irish since that time. The shamrock was traditionally used for its medical properties and was a popular motif in Victorian times. The four-leaf clover is often confused with the shamrock. While the four-leaf clover is a symbol of good luck, the three-leafed shamrock is mainly an Irish Christian symbol of the Holy Trinity and has a different significance.
